Product Description

JVCC REPAIR-1 is a strong and reliable leather and vinyl repair tape that is most commonly used to repair school bus seats. However, this high-quality tape has many uses, so if you're looking for a vinyl repair tape for motorcycle seat fabric, this repair tape is a great choice. It's constructed from vinyl-coated cloth, so you can easily tear it by hand without the need of a cutting tool, but you'll get the cleanest cut if you use a razor blade.

JVCC REPAIR-1 leather and vinyl repair tape (gaffers tape) is available in various colors. Colored vinyl repair tape is especially useful when you need to match a certain shade. All the colors have a matte finish. If you need a shinier tape, see JVCC REPAIR-2HD, which is made from polyethylene-coated cloth duct tape. This tape is primarily used indoors but can be used outdoors over short time periods (the tape does not offer any type of UV-protection).

Product Applications

  • School bus seat repair
  • Repair and patch vinyl sofas and seats
  • Repair and patch leather seats and sofas
  • Cover concealment
  • Arts and crafts projects
  • Color-coding
  • Repair car seats
  • Wrap tennis racket handles and bike handles
  • Repair holes in lederhosen
  • Fix holes in office chairs
  • Patch boat seats
  • Cover a fraying convertible top

Application Tips

Always use a razor to cut a piece off. Tearing by hand leaves a rougher edge which allows the edges to be more vulnerable to rolling up. Even scissors have a hard time cutting through it as cleanly as a razor blade since it is heavy-duty vinyl-coated cloth coated with an aggressive adhesive.

A good way to prolong the amount of time it will stay down before its having to be replaced is to apply a small amount of wax on top of the edges, which helps reduce friction.

Remember: gaffers tape is designed to not leave sticky adhesive residue behind like a duct tape would; however, it may still pull up loose debris, finish, etc. from a substrate it is applied to depending on many conditions such as length of time applied, chemicals used to clean the substrate and the composition of the substrate itself (as any adhesive tape would).

* Please Read

Many seating surfaces have accumulated oils, detergents, polishes, and miscellaneous other surfactants that will prevent pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes from forming a bond. Please try testing the surface with any available comparable adhesive tape (masking, gaffers, etc.) prior to purchasing this product to see if this could possibly work for you. If that other tape does not adhere you can try cleaning the substrate first with a damp cloth and then allowing to dry completely. If it still does not stick, then you might need one of the liquid seat repair products available on the market instead (these products would also be less noticeable than a tape repair). Country of Origin: United States.

* Multiple cases may be shipped per package in order to minimize the charge for shipping.

QUESTION: I am constructing an artists portfolio case. The tape will be used to connect two panels. The panels will be opened and closed many times. The panels are constructed of 5 mm plywood that is stained and finished with polyurethane. I need a 3" flexible tape with excellent adhesion. The case may occasionally get rained on but will be inside at all times otherwise. Which is better for my use - JVCC Repair 1 or 2HD?
ANSWER: For something like that we would recommend Shurtape P-672 gaffers tape - that is the tape we most often sell for the spines of books since has much higher tensile strength so better for repeated openings and closings. Thank you.

QUESTION: Can repair 1 tape can use outside on vinyl
ANSWER: JVCC's REPAIR-1 tape has a vinyl-coated waterproof backing; however, its adhesive coating offers no UV-protection. You can try it for more short-term outside repairs, but be sure there is no gaping between the tape and the substrate applying it to since if water comes into contact with the adhesive-coated side of the tape it does deaden the adhesive pretty quickly. Thank you.

QUESTION: What tape is best for repair of rip on boat upolstery?
ANSWER: If you don't care about the tape being removable like their REPAIR-1 product then JVCC'S REPAIR-2HD product in a wider 3-inch width should adhere well. Just be sure to read their instructions posted at https://www.findtape.com/p856/?tid=30 about testing with another tape product first. Thank you.

QUESTION: Would you call this a bright blue, or a navy blue? How would it hold up on an exterior repair?
ANSWER: I would call JVCC's REPAIR-1 dark blue more of a navy blue - can see photo online at:https://static.findtape.com/images/p450/JVCC/JVCC-REPAIR-1-Leather-Vinyl-Repair-Tape-DBLU215.jpg. REPAIR-1 is vinyl-coated cloth gaffers tape which is a waterproof backing; however if you have any gaping between the tape and the substrate it is applied to water will get to the underside of the tape and deaden the adhesive pretty quickly so not sure how long it will last if used for an exterior application.

QUESTION: trying to repair vinyl seats on golf carts what's difference between gaffers tape and duct tape which should I use
ANSWER: JVCC REPAIR-1 gaffers would probably match closer to your vinyl seat although the REPAIR-2HD would probably adhere longer. Gaffers tape is vinyl-coated cloth while duct tape is polyethylene-coated so would be shinier and not as matte as the gaffers. Gaffers is also designed to remove without leaving a lot of adhesive residue behind although that is over shorter time periods if not left outside and exposed to UV.

Good Stuff
JVCC REPAIR-1 Patch & Repair Tape for Leather and Vinyl surfaces [Gaffers Tape]
Had a tear in a used car that I recently purchased. Initially put black Duct tape on it which was fine until we got 90 degree weather. Tape turned to mush and left residual glue all over the seat. What a mess! An internet search brought me to the findtape.com website and gaffers tape. Can't believe the difference. The gaffers tape is more like cloth and doesn't leave behind any residual glue when removed. When I saw that it was used to repair school bus seats, well that told me to give it a shot. Glad I did, holding up nicely and not affected by the heat. The black tape I chose also is hardly noticeable on the black leather seat.I highly recommend trying it.

I have each of my drivers keep a couple or rolls in their repair kits. Makes a great fast fix on ripped seats - keeps them from getting worse before they can be fixed back in the shop at the end of the month.

Made from premium gaffers tape - I checked
JVCC REPAIR-1 Patch & Repair Tape for Leather and Vinyl surfaces [Gaffers Tape]
Wasn't sure what this tape was made from so I called findtape and asked - not shown on site, but they said its from the premium pro tapes pro gaff which is pretty good stuff. I bought an extra roll for my son to keep in his bag when helping backstage at his school play. If I didn't I know he would've stolen mine. Worked great on the ripped couch.
Made in the USA
hot melt rubber (synthetic)
Offers the widest range of application flexibility available. Exhibits excellent processing performance whether manually or automatically applied. Has superior tensile strength, adhesion properties and holding force which ensures consistent, reliable seals. Hot melt adhesive will bond faster to a surface which is referred to as quick-grab or quick-stick. It typically has higher tack (will feel stickier to the touch), but is also softer. It has lower heat resistance, shear resistance, and sometimes UV resistance than an acrylic adhesive. NOTE: it is called hot melt because the adhesive is applied hot by the manufacturer and then hardens as it cools (you do not need to apply heat to the tape yourself).
natural rubber
Properties are similar to that of hot melt rubber, but natural rubber often holds where other adhesives won't (recycled fibers, dust, cold, heat and heavy loads). It provides good overall adhesion and moisture resistance.
acrylic
Offer excellent performance, especially for applications in temperatures less than 40°F and greater then 120°F. It provides excellent clarity, has high shear strength, is usually more permanent/durable even when exposed to moisture, and it ages well over extended periods in fluorescent and sunlight. Since it remains clear for the life of the application and does not yellow over time it is ideal for applications such as sealing white cartons. While it has good initial adhesion it does take 24-48 hours to cure and to achieve its maximum bond strength (has gradual adhesion buildup). Another difference between hot melt rubber and acrylic adhesive is if you fold tape over making the two adhesive sides touch the acrylic adhesive will remain attached to the carrier (e.g. paper, film) while a hot melt adhesive will stick to itself and pull off of the carrier. It is the best choice for clarity, UV resistance and aging characteristics.
silicone
Is great for extreme temperature applications since silicone adhesive can work in continuous operating temperatures from -100°F to 500°F. They also exhibit good chemical resistance, retain electrical properties, and remove cleanly with little or no residue.
zinc oxide
Zinc oxide based adhesive formula is a skin-friendly adhesive which is commonly used on sports medicine tapes.
Thickness, AKA caliper or gauge, refers to the distance from one surface of a tape backing, or adhesive, to the other.
1 mil = 1/1000 of an inch
Examples: 1/16 inch = 62.5 mils; 1/32 inch = 31.25 mils
The cut level indicates how many grams of cutting load a glove can withstand from a sharp blade before being penetrated.
Lower gauge gloves are heavier - have thicker construction, fewer stiches knitted per inch and offer less dexterity.
Higher gauge gloves are lighter - have thinner/finer construction, more stitches knitted per inch and offer more dexterity.
Gloves offered typically runs from 7 to 18 (12 and 13 are in the middle of the scale).
