Product Description

JVCC REPAIR-1 is a strong and reliable leather and vinyl repair tape that is most commonly used to repair school bus seats. However, this high-quality tape has many uses, so if you're looking for a vinyl repair tape for motorcycle seat fabric, this repair tape is a great choice. It's constructed from vinyl-coated cloth, so you can easily tear it by hand without the need of a cutting tool, but you'll get the cleanest cut if you use a razor blade.

JVCC REPAIR-1 leather and vinyl repair tape (gaffers tape) is available in various colors. Colored vinyl repair tape is especially useful when you need to match a certain shade. All the colors have a matte finish. If you need a shinier tape, see JVCC REPAIR-2HD, which is made from polyethylene-coated cloth duct tape. This tape is primarily used indoors but can be used outdoors over short time periods (the tape does not offer any type of UV-protection).

Product Applications

  • School bus seat repair
  • Repair and patch vinyl sofas and seats
  • Repair and patch leather seats and sofas
  • Cover concealment
  • Arts and crafts projects
  • Color-coding
  • Repair car seats
  • Wrap tennis racket handles and bike handles
  • Repair holes in lederhosen
  • Fix holes in office chairs
  • Patch boat seats
  • Cover a fraying convertible top

Application Tips

Always use a razor to cut a piece off. Tearing by hand leaves a rougher edge which allows the edges to be more vulnerable to rolling up. Even scissors have a hard time cutting through it as cleanly as a razor blade since it is heavy-duty vinyl-coated cloth coated with an aggressive adhesive.

A good way to prolong the amount of time it will stay down before its having to be replaced is to apply a small amount of wax on top of the edges, which helps reduce friction.

Remember: gaffers tape is designed to not leave sticky adhesive residue behind like a duct tape would; however, it may still pull up loose debris, finish, etc. from a substrate it is applied to depending on many conditions such as length of time applied, chemicals used to clean the substrate and the composition of the substrate itself (as any adhesive tape would).

* Please Read

Many seating surfaces have accumulated oils, detergents, polishes, and miscellaneous other surfactants that will prevent pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes from forming a bond. Please try testing the surface with any available comparable adhesive tape (masking, gaffers, etc.) prior to purchasing this product to see if this could possibly work for you. If that other tape does not adhere you can try cleaning the substrate first with a damp cloth and then allowing to dry completely. If it still does not stick, then you might need one of the liquid seat repair products available on the market instead (these products would also be less noticeable than a tape repair). Country of Origin: United States.

* Multiple cases may be shipped per package in order to minimize the charge for shipping.

QUESTION: Is this waterproof? I want to use it on a small tear on top of a pair of work boots, so it needs to stand up to all kinds of weather. Thanks!
ANSWER: JVCC's REPAIR-1 is rewound from Pro Tapes Pro Gaff gaffers tape which has a vinyl-coated cloth backing/carrier which is waterproof. If there is any gaping though which would allow water to get to the adhesive-side of the tape water would deaden the adhesive pretty quickly (just the tape's backing is waterproof).

QUESTION: Is this tape waterproof? I want to use it for my waverunner seat
ANSWER: JVCC's REPAIR-1 tape is vinyl-coated cloth gaffers so the tape's backing is waterproof; however if there is any gaping between the tape and the substrate it is applied to then once water comes into contact with the adhesive side of the tape it typically will not stay on for very long. Once it becomes submerged that is what often times happens pretty quickly.

QUESTION: Would this work on a convertible top?
ANSWER: No, gaffers tape would not last long outdoors.

QUESTION: Is there a special cleaner that will make the tape stick to a leather chair?
ANSWER: No, special cleaner. other than a damp cloth JVCC's instructions on that tape are the following:Many seating surfaces have accumulated oils, detergents, polishes, and miscellaneous other surfactants that will prevent pressure sensitive adhesive tapes from forming a bond. Please try testing the surface with any available adhesive tape (masking, duct, etc.) prior to purchasing this product to see if this could possibly work for you. If that other tape does not adhere you can try cleaning the substrate first with a damp cloth and then allowing to dry completely. If it still does not stick, then you might need one of the liquid seat repair products available on the market instead (these products would also be less noticeable than a tape repair).Thank you.

We had a rip in our leather couch, and put the tape over it. The tape blends right in with the color of the couch so you can hardly tell it's there. Very pleased.

Worn-out leather driver's seat in 21 year Nissan Maxima. Color (Beige) and Texture make it a lot more palatable than any type of duct tape I saw otherwise. After a month now I am not seeing any loss of adhesion. ...looks SO much better than duct tape.

Sofa repair
JVCC REPAIR-1 Patch & Repair Tape for Leather and Vinyl surfaces [Gaffers Tape]
We have leather sofas, but any part which isn't touching you is vinyl. A tear developed between one of the seats. I bought a kit w with some goo which had to be applied and heated to set-- did not work on the torn area. Your tape was very easy to apply and covered the area of the tear and the area surrounding it so the it should protect it from tearing more. Since it is down between the seat cushion it is totally invisible. I am sure, I will find other uses for the big roll of tape.

Made in the USA
hot melt rubber (synthetic)
Offers the widest range of application flexibility available. Exhibits excellent processing performance whether manually or automatically applied. Has superior tensile strength, adhesion properties and holding force which ensures consistent, reliable seals. Hot melt adhesive will bond faster to a surface which is referred to as quick-grab or quick-stick. It typically has higher tack (will feel stickier to the touch), but is also softer. It has lower heat resistance, shear resistance, and sometimes UV resistance than an acrylic adhesive. NOTE: it is called hot melt because the adhesive is applied hot by the manufacturer and then hardens as it cools (you do not need to apply heat to the tape yourself).
natural rubber
Properties are similar to that of hot melt rubber, but natural rubber often holds where other adhesives won't (recycled fibers, dust, cold, heat and heavy loads). It provides good overall adhesion and moisture resistance.
acrylic
Offer excellent performance, especially for applications in temperatures less than 40°F and greater then 120°F. It provides excellent clarity, has high shear strength, is usually more permanent/durable even when exposed to moisture, and it ages well over extended periods in fluorescent and sunlight. Since it remains clear for the life of the application and does not yellow over time it is ideal for applications such as sealing white cartons. While it has good initial adhesion it does take 24-48 hours to cure and to achieve its maximum bond strength (has gradual adhesion buildup). Another difference between hot melt rubber and acrylic adhesive is if you fold tape over making the two adhesive sides touch the acrylic adhesive will remain attached to the carrier (e.g. paper, film) while a hot melt adhesive will stick to itself and pull off of the carrier. It is the best choice for clarity, UV resistance and aging characteristics.
silicone
Is great for extreme temperature applications since silicone adhesive can work in continuous operating temperatures from -100°F to 500°F. They also exhibit good chemical resistance, retain electrical properties, and remove cleanly with little or no residue.
zinc oxide
Zinc oxide based adhesive formula is a skin-friendly adhesive which is commonly used on sports medicine tapes.
Thickness, AKA caliper or gauge, refers to the distance from one surface of a tape backing, or adhesive, to the other.
1 mil = 1/1000 of an inch
Examples: 1/16 inch = 62.5 mils; 1/32 inch = 31.25 mils
The cut level indicates how many grams of cutting load a glove can withstand from a sharp blade before being penetrated.
Lower gauge gloves are heavier - have thicker construction, fewer stiches knitted per inch and offer less dexterity.
Higher gauge gloves are lighter - have thinner/finer construction, more stitches knitted per inch and offer more dexterity.
Gloves offered typically runs from 7 to 18 (12 and 13 are in the middle of the scale).
